Spring is in the air...

and making it's debut all throughout my garden.

We have been treated to some beautiful weather lately and I am so excited to fall back into my spring/summer time obsession - gardening. I love almost every aspect of working in the yard...well, except for the grubs and nasty brown cocoon looking things that move - those pretty much make my skin crawl and is where the boys come in VERY handy.

Anyway, while I may not be able to grow a decent lawn (that is a HUGE understatement and has become my main challenge for the year), I do enjoy working in the yard and thank my Dad for my love of weeding and gardening! Thanks Dad!

Here are some pictures of what is in bloom today...
And, I grow these as well should anyone be looking for two crazy children who are usually good for a laugh or a thousand..

You will notice that Erickson is wearing a bike helmet! Mike pushed him around the yard a few times on Michael's old bike with the aim of getting him ready to learn to ride. (Sucks to be the second child and have to receive all of the hand-me-downs but that is a whole other subject not even worth talking about...) I was too late to get a picture of Erick on the bike, but the boys hammed it up for the camera anyway.

Flowers look beautiful! I have the same obsession. If only I could figure out to have a weed free front lawn. Let me know if you figure out any secret tricks.

I like how Erick is big into the thumbs up--I think I've seen him do that before, no? cutie patooties!

Robin, I will let you know if I find a magic formula. Mike was "threatening" to call in a lawn service this year but I said I wanted to give it a shot first! I am determined so that has to count for something.

And yes Megan, Erick is following in the footsteps of the Fonz! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Fonzie.jpg
It gets the girls, right?

Just so everyone understands, we literally have weeds that are special to our lawn only; they seem to be some kind of exotic species that's gotten loose. Combine that with ants the size of a child's thumb, held in check only by the earwigs that could lop off said thumb with their unnaturally large pincers, and you've got a mess on your hands. I'd blame us, but it is its own ecosystem at this point. No human can help. Plus it's now like wild kingdom out there with the giant bugs.

At least you are not poisoning the planet. Yeah for dandelions. I'll have to show you this contraption Dennis bought ('cause I won't let him spray) to pop dandelions. I've never used it personally but it looks like fun! (ala Huck Finn)

Just keep mowing...if it's green, it's a lawn!

Hmmm,I am intrigued by the contraption. I just go old school with my dandelion fork.

The funny thing is that half of the weeds in our lawn have flowers growing from them (purples, blues, yellow and this cool miniature fern looking number), which if we didn't live in our crazy little world, would actually be quite pretty.

My Michael told the neighbors I planted the purple flowers in the lawn just for him! We used to have those ferns!!! I went around and pulled them one by one- planted patch master and they have never returned. Those purple problems are another story!
