Concussion!

Yesterday I received the dreaded call from the school secretary that Michael had hurt himself in gym class. Poor Mikey had tripped in class and smashed his forehead on the gym floor. After he started becoming lethargic, looking a little pale, and threw up twice, we immediately took him to the ER to have him officially checked out. Thankfully he only suffered a minor concussion and was on the mend a few hours later - in time to enjoy a nice Mexican dinner at one of his favorite restaurants.

I haven't taken a picture of his bump yet, but I will when he gets home from school. Instead I will offer the following photo from when he was about 2 and had a major bruise to his chin after falling down a couple of stairs while riding a zebra bike. Not one of our stellar parental moments as he was riding around in the kitchen with both Mike and I at arms length away, yet he managed to scoot right past us and down a small flight of stairs to the side door landing. So please keep Mikey in your thoughts and hope that his head does not hurt too much today!

In other news, today we are packing up our belongings and heading north to do some fishing. Salmon fishing that is. And possibly perch. We have an annual trip that we take to celebrate Mike's birthday, which fortunately for Mike's hobbies, coincides with when the salmon are running. So wish us luck!

**** UPDATE *****
Just checked in on Michael at school during lunch time and he seems to be doing just fine. His forehead actually looks a lot better than yesterday and the bruising thus far is pretty minimal :-) In an effort to avoid further injury until this one has time to heal, he was advised to spend his recess time drawing with some buddies instead of running around in the usual recess time chaos. All is well.

OH NO!! What stress. When I was teaching Jr. High, one of my kids broke his arm in gym. It just about broke my heart. Kids deserve nonstop fun! But, I guess unless they're wrapped in bubble wrap, they might get hurt once in awhile:(
