Where has the time gone? I meant to put a post up about my Grandmother's birthday earlier this month, but haven't yet. So I will take the opportunity now!
The weekend before this last one, we headed up north to celebrate my Grandma's 95th birthday! It was a fun and special occasion and we were so happy to be able to share it with her. She is pretty much one of those people that you feel lucky and blessed to know. Kind of like you hope that some of her goodness will rub off on you. Here are some of my favorite pictures of Grandma:
We had a lovely lunch in the restaurant of the hotel where we celebrated my grandparent's 50th wedding anniversary (in 1988 I think it was?). My whole family was up there and we were joined by my Grandma's youngest brother and sister. She is the 2nd oldest child of nine, and the oldest daughter!
The weather up there was downright frigid all weekend long. Erickson and my dad managed to do some snow shoeing and Mike and Michael made a trek through the woods before Grandma's party on Saturday, but when Mike tried to go ice fishing on Sunday, the temperature was way below zero with nasty bitting winds and a ton of blowing snow. Not very ideal when you are not equipped with an ice shanty of any sort. Mike gave it a good 15 minutes before deciding it was better to come inside than succumb to frostbite. Excellent choice.
Some pictures from our visit:
Amazing! Speaking of occasions worth celebrating, Mike just sent me this link. Wow!

I'm glad you have a grandparent like mine! My grandpa died in October and I'm still struggling--he was the coolest, smartest, man I'll ever know.
I didn't know Mike was a fisherman! My dad fishes everyday-seriously, EVERYday.
Yes, he is a fisherman. We used to go a lot when we were at Hillsdale - the farm house he lived in Senior year had a great pond out back. When we were first dating we went to Bawbese Lake to go ice fishing and I think I wore something like slip on shoes and a dress coat and some other ridiculous, NOT NEARLY WARM ENOUGH clothing - all for the sake of trying to look good. I froze my behind off and lasted about 2 minutes. I don't think he was very happy with me.
My parents have a pond out back, so when my dad doesn't get over to the lake, he goes right out back! It's an illness. He'll take people out on the boat....say, 6 guys, right? They come home with 12 fish. Of course, he usually catches at least 11 of them. After 33 years, I still have NO idea how to "get good" at fishing:(
Michelle,
It's Elena and I can't figure out how to post with my name. I told you email is about the extent of my technology! The boys look great and it sounds like you are as ready for spring as we are. Of course, being in the GP Public School system has meant that when the rest of the STATE has had a snow day I am expected to bring my kindergartner out in frigid temps and snow because they have plowed our sidewalks! Can't wait for warmer weather and outside play. Any plans to come down this way?
Elena--click the circle next to Name/URL and fill in your name--you don't have to have a URL, then hit "Publish your comment". See you next time:)
Hello Elena! How great to hear from you :-) No kidding about the snow days, the boys just keep racking them up! So unfair. At least Zoe and Gus can grow up and tell their children how THEY never had snow days either. Ha!
No current plans to come over that way (unless the east side of the state gets a sudden heat wave!) but I imagine we will head out there sometime in the next few months. I will let you know! Did my dad put you up to that question ;-)
Great to hear from you!
And thank you Megan for the comment instructions :-)
Say it isn't so - Homer on skies with grandson on Little Traverse Lake! Homer was in Heaven, both were CRAZY for going out in the FREEZING weather! Ugh!! How about the drive home from Traverse that evening - ask the little woman!!! HA! HA!
