My random thoughts on Winter in Michigan

I know that I am not alone in my love-hate relationship with winter in Michigan, but I thought I would share some of my random thoughts on the topic.

It is frightening, FRIGHTENING, driving around here lately. There are so many potholes in the roads it is crazy. There is one literally the size of a child's baby pool not far from here that they have already filled in once and it has already begun to dip again. Ridiculous - you would think someone would come up with some kind of material that would work better than that crud they fill them with! I can't even begin to imagine how many cars get messed up because of those things.

On a non-complaining note, we have had no snow days this week and have enjoyed quite a bit of sunshine. It is really wonderful to look up at the bright blue sky and be able to take in some sun (even if the temps are in the 20's)!!!!
I laughed at a comment a friend left as she was mentioning how they NEVER have snow days and how it stinks to have to take her kids to school when it is freezing cold outside. I, on the other hand, always find myself thankful when the boys DO have school and hope that we DO NOT have any more snow days. I don't know, something about snow days interfering with MY time for ME. I value those 2.5 hours every M,W, and F when both boys are in school. How selfish, I know. That, and my house can't take much more of the boys playing inside. But that is a whole other topic that I will spare you from reading about - for now.

I suppose we haven't had it too bad though as someone was telling me about a school north of here that has had so many snow days that they will be lucky to be out of school by July 4th. Can you even imagine!!!! How awful!

I've always found February the cruelest month. I mean, why the extra 'r?' And, even though the days are getting longer (2 min 50 sec tomorrow), it is still ridiculously cold. I'm so sure that we are entering the next Ice Age. There will be winter fairs on the Grand River. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/River_Thames_frost_fairs

Did you happen to see the missile knock the satellite out of the sky while you were out there?

It is quite impressive seeing the Grand frozen with huge chunks of ice, but I think it is flowing in areas again so perhaps a fair will have to be put off for another year. Now we can look forward to all of the flooding that will take place!

At any rate, I did not see any of the blast from the satellite. I imagine that would have been pretty impressive to see - until the hazardous pieces start to fall on us!
