Our favorite retreat...

What would you do if you were blessed with a gorgeous sunny weekend and don't have any plans from Saturday afternoon on? Well, if you are us, which I realize you are not, you pack up your gear and head three hours north. Saturday afternoon Erickson had a birthday party from noon until 2:00, and after that we hit the road for a not-nearly-long-enough visit to one of our favorite places - my Grandma's house on the lake. All for a little fun in the snow and ice fishing.

I am happy to report that I caught my first ever fish while ice fishing! Yeah for me! Mike and I caught about 5 perch yesterday while the boys busied themselves making gigantic snow balls and rolling around in the snow. Once fishing was finished, the boys attacked Mike in a snowball fight which was pretty funny to watch.

We also got to enjoy the company of the always enjoyable Auntie Kathy and Uncle John over steaming bowls of yummy chili. My aunt is famous for her apple pies so the boys, much like their father, always request and have come to expect that they will be gifted with the aroma of fresh baked apples and cinnamon whenever she enters the room, but sadly I had to inform them that she needs at least two days notice to make such a delicious treat - not 2 hours notice. Ha! To round out our trip we stopped off for a nice visit with my Grandma who made sure to send us home with a huge bag of sweets and treats much to the boys delight. All in all had a wonderful time.

Some pictures of our trip for your viewing pleasure. I used my old camera for 1/2 of the pictures because it fits so nicely into my pocket so the pictures are not the best, but you get the idea...

One last item...Mike and I watch the movie Little Miss Sunshine Saturday night and I have to say that it was insanely good. I hadn't watched it before but had heard good reviews for it. We were definitely not disappointed -- fantastic cast and a crazy good movie.

I should point out that my lovely wife took to ice fishing like a kid to ketchup. And she's hot.

I should also point out that in one of the snowball fight images a point-blank iceballing is cataloged. Someone send the authorities to come get me and take me to a home for abused fathers. That shot happened about 30 seconds before Erick tossed one in my face. I get no respect.

Glad you had a good weekend. I agree LMS is an excellent movie!

Thanks for your super kind comments on my blog--you keep me going:) And, I thank Jared too (everyday) for bringing you back to me.....a little cheesy, but true. Funny how people "do work".

Finally, Michael, for every snowball, iceball, rough tackle or punch from your boys, you can chalk up a good night's rest in years to come when you're NOT worrying about your daughter out on a date, and instead, your boys are giving some other dad a headache because their daughter is out on a date with one of your boys.

"And she's hot." I love it. A good boost to the old self-esteem. And home for abused fathers - Pah-Leese. They WORSHIP you. You are their ring leader.

And Megan...esh. I can't even imagine the point where they will be dating! I can hardly believe that Michael will be turning 8 this summer, but to think of them dating. Good Lord. I will have nightmares now. I think I will be ALWAYS worrying about them.

I'm sorry to do that to you. Now, I'm worrying about you worrying about them!
